Chlorophyll Habitat is an exhibition inspired by my ongoing quest for solutions to environmental issues, and more particularly by a two-month stay in Thailand during which my life partner, our four children and I took the time to reexamine our values, priorities and foundations.
The journey allowed me to take my contemplation of the relationship between man and nature one step further. I was able to reconnect with a place where people of different ethnic backgrounds interact on a daily basis, and discover a land where nature, thanks to it abundance and power of regeneration, seems to have claimed rights for itself. Inspired by this new form of plant life, in this exhibition I imagine a new ecosystem made of a half-wild, half-urban space. I reinvent an ideological urbanization based on the equality of man and nature, and propose what could be called a human colonisation of nature. I reconstruct a world where the raw and the esthetic collide, interact and enter into dialogue.
Chlorophyll Habitat showcases sketch books from my travels and vibrantly coloured paintings. The works feature relief made from machined and raw materials from plant and animal sources gathered over time. It is a universe of paradox that transports us to the heart of the complexity of planetary coexistence between the species. It is the embodiment of a never-ending quest for societal and environment balance.
Without humankind, Earth is insignificant. Likewise, without Earth, humankind is nothing!
